Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Table

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a diverse cast of personalities, and a gripping narrative including angels, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Key plot points for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the main group to begin their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team features Teor Pridesire (played by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney), Wicander (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

This explains, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before splitting into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a classically intense battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

Initially, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The traitor then settled his liabilities and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each character has a individual motive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the region and advises that it is a nasty environment.
  • Tyranny and Wicander, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their reputation as important members in House Halovar could help the team access places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him anywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city dangerous:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in quest for Casimir.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate learning which characters will be where in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on next week.
