PSG Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.
PSG has now won the prestigious trophy on fourteen different occasions.
The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past Marseille in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.
The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the French league champions and the French Cup holders after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.
However, Marseille struck two times late to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.
In a breathtaking twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.
From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.
Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the last thirteen seasons.
